Silent Walk

Reminiscing

I took a detour from my normal route back home; I got off the stop before my usual one.
From there I walked towards the now unfamiliar road to my primary school.
Back then were the days when I took the same path every day to school.
The buses during those days had open windows;

I miss the cool breeze touching my cheeks and the seats warmed by the sun.
I loved to daydream with such atmosphere as to get away from the hectic weekdays in school.
Today, we enjoy air conditioned buses, however I believe some of us would still prefer or at least would want to remember the feeling of the warm, tropical sun heating up the atmosphere.

Upon reaching the bus stop, I alight and begin my walk back home.

a close up
I can no longer see the saplings from before.
They have matured enough to have elongated shadows – providing shade for me on my journey home.

During my walk home, memories of my primary school days were
remembered. At the side of the road, I noticed a flock of bird on the ground. It seems that they
were feeding by the grass and after which, they flew away together.

I felt cold air from the sewer drains just as I passed by. It gave me chills when I wondered about what will happen if I got trapped in a sewer.

A little further was a dead bird on the ground by a pathway near the trees.
The carcass seems to have completely decomposed already as it seems to have been left
there for quite a few days already. Funny how we all return to the earth that supported us as we grew. Life sure is a mysterious cycle.

Around the corner of my eye, I saw the place I used to stay at when
I had supplementary lessons – the playground.

Also there was the badminton court. As I passed by it, I begin to reminisce the
times I would play soccer and badminton. How I wish I could relive those worry-free days I had
as a primary school student.

The last stop for the trip would be the mama shop.
I frequented it for cold desserts on hot days. I would spend my 10 cents on a popsicle to cool myself but on days that I have enough, it would be my favourite Milo ice cream.
I loved the richness of the chocolate flavouring it had.
It satisfies my tongue and also helps keep me cool on hot sunny days.
I continue to walk home as I recollect the days of being a primary school student.
